Epidemiology

Recently we have demonstrated the importance of alterations in serum lipid risk factor for cardiovascular disease mortality in apparently healthy population also ofa significant relationship between laextensión hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis. With the aim of determining the prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia in young adults, a study in 122 patients with edadescomprendidas between 20 and 24 years of age who attended the Ambulatory Military The Rose Garden during the years 2003-2005. The maximum value found was 858 mg / dL for males, and the lowest value was 25 mg / dL also male. The average serum levels for females was 114 mg / dL for males was 134 mg / dL. Laprevalencia general was 24.6%. The 13.94% were females and 10.66% were male.

History

70s in Almeria. We talk about cholesterol Cholesterol is a substance found in all animals and also very common in the plant kingdom. It belongs to a group of compounds called steroids that are characterized by a peculiar chemical structure, three hexagonal rings townhouses and fourth pentagonal ring (chemists call to that structure, we must first take a deep breath, "ciclopentanoperhidrofenantreno). Steroids are of crucial importance because most of the hormones produced by the body (sex hormones such as progesterone or testosterone, adrenal hormones like cortisone, etc.), bile acids, vitamin D and many other substances have this structure and are synthesized from cholesterol.Cholesterol is a highly hydrophobic substance (which has a phobia of water) being completely insoluble. However, we know that is present in the blood and in substantial quantities (between 150 and 300 mg / dL). In addition, some of this cholesterol is esterified with a fatty acid to be, if possible, even more intractable. How Swift is the blood to dissolve cholesterol transport and power? Then using a detergent, as well as the Mistol "until the fat dissolves more persistent." In blood, cholesterol appears attached to or associated substances called lipoproteins that scientists classified according to their density: high density lipoproteins (HDLs, known as High Density Lipoproteins ") and low density lipoprotein (LDL - Low Density Lipoproteins). There are other branches but we are interested less in order to explain how they work. Thanks to these lipoprotein cholesterol can be transported from one place to another.

What is hypertriglyceridemia?

Hypertriglyceridemia is the excess of triglycerides in the blood. Triglycerides are fatty substances in the blood and the body which get their name from their chemical structure.

The liver produces triglycerides. Any extra calories in your diet can be converted into triglycerides. Triglycerides can also become cholesterol.

The food we consume is used or stored. When eating fat food is digested and triglycerides are released into the bloodstream. This will give you energy to perform activities, or simply to maintain its vital functions. If you eat more, the rest of the food is stored as fat.
